Advertising Experiment Update

August 28th, 2009

I’m getting even more excited about my advertising experiment on Craigslist. I told you that last week I posted 10 ads on the Craigslist Manchester site (UK) and Ive seen loads of interest. Best part was that my adverts were not been flagged or deleted so I now know this system is good. Did I mention I was using image only ads?

But just to be sure, I went back and also posted some text ads and so far only the image ads have worked well. I had my best ever one day sales last Monday so I’m now confident that I can grow my sales even more, by using this technique and posting on more Craigslist sites.

If you’re interested in trying out something similar there are full instructions with a video tutorial to download right here. You’ll have to be patient because its a big download (70mb) but its worth it!

How to Avoid Going Broke on Craigslist

August 18th, 2009

Are you a fan of the classified website Craigslist.org? I am! There are lots of great deals to be found. Unfortunately, snatching up too many good deals on Craigslist can burn a hole in your wallet. So, how can you avoid going broke thanks to Craigslist?

Only Buy Things You Need

Raise your hand if you have bought something on Craigslist that you really didn’t need. Yep, raise your hand because we have all likely done it. I have two empty dressers that are sitting here unused, but I didn’t want to pass them up because they were only $5 each. I keep telling myself one day… I will use them! If even you only spend $5 on an item that you don’t really need, that five dollars could easy add up to a couple hundred dollars by the end of the year.

Free Isn’t Always Free

Deal seekers like to scoop up free things listed on Craigslist just because they are free. This is ideal, but you are still spending money. You still have to drive to pickup the item in question. So, make sure the freebie is even worth it. For curb alerts, where items are just placed by the curb on a first come first serve basis, it is best to act quick. You do nothing but waste gas and time by driving to pickup the items only to learn that someone beat you there.

Compare Prices

A lot of us (myself included) don’t price compare when buying on Craigslist because we automatically assume we are getting the best deals. However, this isn’t always true. Since eBay has raised their fees, some sellers find it impossible to make money and many of these sellers have turned to Craigslist and they are in it to make a profit. You also get the occasional sellers who don’t understand that used should automatically mean a discount off the original selling price. If looking for a desk, you should have at least four or five to choose from and that is only if you live in a small city. Compare the other desk listings on Craigslist.org to ensure the prices are inline. Avoid anything that is too high.

Download a Craigslist Search Program

Craigslist search programs do cost money, so you may wonder how they prevent you from going broke. They enable you to search more locations and categories at once (something Craigslist.org doesn’t do). You can also edit your lists to eliminate items that are poor in quality or too expensive, giving you a shorter list to price compare. Good deals don’t go quick on Craigslist, so you need to search quickly and often to find them. Craigslist search programs allow you to do that.

Craigslist Update 2

August 13th, 2009

I’m getting quite excited about my advertising on Craigslist. This week I’ve posted 10 ads on the Craigslist Manchester site (UK) and I’m seeing loads of interest. Best part is that my adverts have not been flagged or deleted so I now know this system is good.

My sales of the two products I mentioned are up and the CTR has doubled in just one week. I’ll keep you updated and tell you more about this system when I’m sure that its not just a bit of beginner’s luck.

Craigslist Experiment Updated

August 6th, 2009

Just one week on and already I’m beginning to think that the experiment is working. I’ve placed some ads in three locations so far and I’ve seen an increase in sales of the products I mentioned.

The two web pages I want to promote are important pages because one is about an affiliate product which is my best selling item on Clickbank and the other is about getting to understand and use Twitter for profit and pleasure.

Both of the web pages have a free downloadable report so its worth visitors going there to collect the free reports which are really useful anyway. If anyone also wants to buy the high value products… that would be very nice too.

The pages I’m using for my Craigslist experiment are:

I’m trying to use the Craigslist classified ads to my advantage but without running foul of the terms of service – I don’t want to get banned, but I do want to make all my efforts count, so I’m using a slightly unorthodox method of placing ads which is undetectable so won’t cause me any problems.

I only placed ads in three locations: New York city, Chicago and Florida so the increase in sales is quite remarkable.

I’m going to add some new locations this week, maybe even try the UK for different traffic sources.

I’ll update gain in a few days and see what happens next.

My Craigslist Experiment

July 29th, 2009

I’ve set up my Craigslist Experiment to see how easy it is to drive traffic to two of my web pages, one on each of two separate websites. Using the power of Craigslist and the massive number of daily searches, in the millions, I’m trying a slightly different way of preparing my classified ads to see what happens.

The two webpages I want to promote are important pages because one is about an affiliate product which is my best selling item on Clickbank and the other is about getting to understand and use Twitter for profit and pleasure.

Both of the web pages have a free downloadable report so its worth visitors going there to collect the free reports which are really useful anyway. If anyone also wants to buy the high value products… that would be very nice too.

The pages I’m using for my Craigslist experiment are:

I’ll keep you updated on the progress of this experiment and reveal the methods I’m using to create ‘different’ ads that I hope will prove to be interesting enough to get people to visit the two target pages.
